Porterville
is the gateway to the parks for Southern California. We are
designated a Main Street City and have an Enterprise Zone. We
have also been designated a Recycling Market Development Zone
City in 1992. The City was Incorporated on May 7, 1902, and uses
a Council and Manager form of Government. In June of 1994,
Porterville was the only city in California to be selected for
the prestigious All America City Award by the National Civic
League.
The
Porterville Area
also includes the communities of Lindsay, Strathmore,
Springville, Ducor, Terra Bella, Poplar, Woodville, Camp Nelson,
and the Tule Indian Reservation. Also included are many sections
of Tulare County and numerous mountain communities. |
Less than 2
hours away from the High Sierra recreation areas, you'll find
the Sequoia and
Kings Canyon National Parks
and the Sequoia
National Forest.
The Porterville area is abundant with wildlife such as deer,
wild pigs, rabbits, squirrels, quail and many other small game.
Lake Success
is a popular recreational attraction, providing outstanding
fishing, water sports, and nice camping areas.
Porterville is home to the
Barn Theatre,
where talented local performers stage such Broadway hits as "Evita"
and "Guys and Dolls..."
The Porterville
Museum
houses a variety of Western and Indian historical objects, as
well as occasional special and seasonal displays...
The Zalud House,
a century-old Victorian mansion preserved in its original state,
hosts guided tours and offers its nationally-recognized rose
garden for weddings and receptions. |
